The journey is the challenge
Make the road to max level matter
Leveling Challenges are optional trials that reshape the rules of your adventure. You choose the experience before setting out, accept its restrictions, and measure success by how far you can carry that promise.
Some trials make death final. Others limit who can help you, change how you acquire equipment, or demand more planning from every expedition. They all share the same idea: the journey deserves to be an achievement of its own.

Your rules, your achievement
Choose your trial
The Trials window is where your challenge begins. Browse the available modes, compare their auras and restrictions, and open each trial to understand exactly what it demands. Some challenges change how you acquire equipment or who you can adventure with; others put a strict limit on the number of deaths your character can suffer.
Study the rules before you begin
Select a trial to review its description, applied auras, restrictions, activation requirements, and available difficulty levels. The interface gives you the full ruleset before the Activate button becomes your point of no return.

Confirm the commitment
Activating a trial always requires confirmation. This final warning repeats the condition that can end your run—in Hardcore, that means a single death—so there is no hidden rule or accidental commitment. Accept only when your character and supplies are ready for the road ahead.

Every failure is final for the trial
When a failure condition is met, the result appears immediately. A Hardcore death ends the challenge at the level you reached and removes its active status. Your character is not deleted: you can release, continue playing normally, and decide whether your next hero will attempt the trial again.

One life
Hardcore
Hardcore is the ultimate single-life challenge. Enter Azeroth with one life and prove your skill, patience, and perseverance against a world where every dangerous pull can end the run.
You do not have to face it alone. You may group with other Hardcore adventurers, but death still ends your personal challenge immediately. Reach the top and earn your place among the elite, or fall to the dangers of Azeroth.

One life, no allies
Ironman
Ironman is a solitary test of self-reliance and determination. You receive only one life and must overcome the dangers of Azeroth without allies to rescue you or soften the journey.
Every victory must be earned through your own preparation and judgment. There is no respite from the trial: if you fall, the Ironman run ends with you.

Five lives, extreme damage
Nightmare
Nightmare transforms every corner of Azeroth into a lethal threat. You take 300% more damage from physical attacks and 500% more damage from spells, forcing you to master every tool available to your character.
You have only five lives to reach the level cap. You may group with other Nightmare adventurers, but each mistake carries a permanent cost until your final life is gone.

Find your next challenge
And many more trials
Hardcore, Ironman, and Nightmare are only a glimpse of the available Trials. The complete system includes many more ways to reshape leveling, from focused restrictions to unusual combinations that demand an entirely different approach to familiar zones and quests.
There are too many to list here—and discovering the right one is part of the experience. Open the Trials window in game to browse the full collection, inspect every rule, and choose the journey that fits the kind of hero you want to become.
No two journeys need to follow the same rules.
New Trials and combinations can expand the system over time, giving returning players another reason to begin again.
The record of your journey
Failure and rewards
When a run no longer meets its conditions, the active challenge status is removed. The character remains yours and can continue adventuring normally, while the completed portion of the trial remains part of that hero's story.
Successful runs earn recognition and rewards tied to the challenge completed. Final availability, milestones, and rewards may change during testing; the in-game trial panel will always show the rules that apply before you commit.
A challenge is optional, but its rules are binding once the journey begins. Read every restriction before activating your trial.
